Oil use?
08/07/09 at 05:20:29

I am running the infamous Rotella.

At 600 miles, I found myself about 1 1/2 oz low.  I know this isn't much.  I am presuming this is typical and nothing to be concerned about at all.  Correct?

I sometimes catch a whiff of hot oil.  I can't find a leak or stain. Probably again nothing to be concerned about.

Not bad at all - the huff and puff of these big singles will cause a some oil usage depending on how hard you run it.

With a multicylinder engine the oil mist air under the piston when it goes down has some place to go - another piston is going up - on a single it just goes out the head breather hose into the air and then right back in as the piston goes up - with a little loss along the way when some of this are is pulled into the air intake as well as some oil condenses and settles into the bottom of the air that should be drained with each oil change.

Makes sense!

Thanks.  I do hear some huffing and puffing, wondered what that was, didn't put 2 & 2 together.  Yet another weird sound not to worry about.  Earplugs really help with this bike - I'm not used to the noises!

Is that because bicycles run so quiet?  Grin

My bicycles not quiet I have a piece of cardboard held on with a clothes pen so the cardboard hits the spokes as I ride. Cool

I think our bike is too quiet stock. Well except for when the spedo vibrates, that drives me nuts.
