rear heat shield
07/30/09 at 14:42:16

I'm trying to remove my rear heat shield, and I took the bolt out and the clamp off, but the heat shield won't come off.  It will move a bit, but not more than that.  It looks as if there may be something between the back of the heat shield and the muffler possibly holding it together; I have no idea.

maybe i'm retarded thoughhehe.  do i have to remove the whole exhaust system before i can remove the heat shield?

Any suggestions/tips to get this thing off?

The shield is also held onto the muffler by two screws around back. It is easier to pull the muffler and shield off in one piece and separate them later.

Serowbot is right, the muffler and shield are screwed together, but for some reason the drawing only shows one screw #11.  There are two, one for each muffler tab. At least that's how it is on my '05.

Easiest way is to remove the whole pipe.
2 screws a clamp and a couple of tabs hold that boat anchor on.

On the Ron Ayers drawing, just to the right of the "10" is a rectangular piece on the muffler.  That has two tabs out of sight.  On the heat shield are two slots out of sight.  The heat shield needs to rotate downward to get the tabs out of the slots.
