springs under the seat...
07/29/09 at 09:14:53

i love the way they look, but i want to keep my second seat around(my girl loves it too much!)

would it look stupid with just the front seat on springs? it might but i figured i'd ask.

and is it weld in or bolted in? i see little brackets for the springs but now sure how u connect them.

On my purple bike,it's all bolt on.However I did have to make a plate for the springs to sit on.I used the stock fender bolt holes to bolt the plate down.On the front I used a pivot kit and it bolts on in the stock gas tank mount holes. The build I'm doing now I welded brackets on for the springs. SEE my bobber build 101 in the tech section.

would it look stupid with just the front seat on springs?

If it performs as you need it, who cares?

I have seen bikes with the FRONT of the front seat having springs. Some actually say it is more comfortable that way.

I personally think the back seat would look out of place not connected to the front seat

I took the plunge, and bobberized my '86.I'll get pics up.I made a mount that is bolt on for the seat springs.2" wide piece of 1/8"(I think) by 9" long,Drlled 2 holes offset to mount it to the frame where the rear fender bolts on from underneath. Then drilled 2 holes to mount the springs.NEW trick I found use small washers just big enough to cover the first coil of spring, and use a buttonhead bolt  with an allen head to bolt the spring on.It's alot easier than trying to put a wrench through the spring.
Used my shortened trailer fender.Side mount maltese cross tailight, and plate.
