I was just switching the engines, no harnesses. I can just cut, solder, the few wires it takes to hook it up i think. Anything else I need to know. I bought a bike that I know the engine is good and want the 5 speed as well. How easy is a swap? Can 1 person pick up the engine? Any tips?

I have taken out and put my engine back in a few times by my self. I wouldn't recommend it, but there are techniques to make it easier. One is lay the engine on it's side then lay the frame over the engine and lift both back up. I could never figure out to exactly do it though so I just keep hurting my back lifting the thing in and out.

The CDI's are different, best to use one of the same vintage as the engine.

Easy way to yank the engine.
remove all the wires, bolts and brackets.
lay a blanket on the lawn.
lay the bike on the blanket.
wiggle the engine free of the frame.
set the engine upright
Ask the wife to give you a hand
say thank you now can we pick up the engine and put it on the bench?
it's about 80# althought I still don't trust the fedex scale
it don't feel that heavy.
