Some mod concerns
07/17/09 at 11:47:14

I have switched out my stock muff for a HD muff, I want to do the re-jet and white spacer mod but a guy from the place I wanted to buy the main and pilot from, told me that after a couple seasons with this set up I will burn out my valves.  Is this true or what?  Please help

There are several if not hundreds of folks here who have been running a set-up like that for years without any trouble.

The engines in these bikes haven't changed since the Savage came out except the change from 4 speed to 5 speed.

The dude is nuts !
Proper rejetting & tuning to match a dyna muffler will result in a cooler running engine which will increase engine life and performance as well.  The power increase is nowhere near enough to cause any type of harmful stress to the engine assembly.

I think the guy your buying the jet from probably just assumes that you have not idea what you're doing. The type and amount of free flow through your HD muffler will determine how much you need to re-jet, but doing so is almost always a necessity. You may need to experiment to find what makes the bike happy. Keep an eye on the color of your header too.

I have a pretty much straight through HD exhaust with only a small bump for a baffle, 155 main, tuned pilot, and unmolested white spacer. This gives me more torque, better highway performance, and up to 70 mpg if i'm behaving.

Good luck,
-G

You can actually burn exhaust valves if you don't rejet. Engine runs very hot when in lean condition.
