It seems like on muggy mornings (like today ) i get a POW every time i let off the throttle or downshift. on days with lower humidity it's not too bad. or is it the barometric pressure instead of humidity? any of our scientific members have an explanation?

Reply #2 - 07/16/09 at 10:45:53 yeah it's not really a problem - i did the white spacer mod and it seemed to help some- i just noticed a variation in how much backfire -seems to vary with weather. i should keep a daily chart with temp, humidity, barometric press, plotted against number of bangs (pops don't count)

Outside air is heavier on humid days. Thus the conditions of the carb now turn out to be lean compared to the external environment. Lean = POW POW is my understanding of it.

After I swapped out my muffler for a straight through my afterfire literally sounds like a gun just went off. When I roll up next to cagers they usually roll up there windows hahaha.

The other day in Boston I was on park street and some lady cut me off I pulled the clutch in and revved it so loud she was scared shitlesss when I rolled up next to her window all she said was "omg I'm so sorry I didn't see you" works better than a horn thats for sure!

nahh, buttons, unheard of. ...Yet scientifically accurate. Cool

- On humid/muggy days there is LESS oxygen in the environment
to help promote a complete/efficient combustion cycle and within
your exhaust fumes there is still a considerable amount of gasoline,
when these gas fumes finally get in contact w/some oxygen (in ur
muffler) and touch a red hot tip of metal somewhere within the
exhaust system, which acts kinda like a sparkplug: BANG!

- On dry days and/or desert locations the combustion is much
more efficient, therefore less byproduct gas fumes = less bang.
