Input needed on new muffler
07/12/09 at 15:04:07
Im a proud new owner of a '95 stock savage. I LOVE the bike but the George Jetson sounding muffler has got to go.
Looking for something that'll give it a decent rumble without being obnoxiously loud. Would prefer not to have to mess with the carb as I am pretty inexperienced. Something along the cheaper end of the scale would be nice..
I know, Im asking for the world, huh? Haha.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I used a muffler from a 1200 Harley Sportster and it worked great. Gave the exhaust a nice deeper tone w/o being loud. It was $15 or so but many have gotten theirs free from people who upgraded or at the dealer. Should be fine w/o a re-jet.
When I re-jetted my carb I drilled a 1/2 hole through the baffle of the HD muffler and it gave a more deeper and louder soup I was looking for. HTH

Which one should I buy the whole sportster exhaust or the shorty muffler in this ad? Are these good prices?

All you need is the actual sporster muffler-no pipes. Sporty's have 2 of them and all you need is 1. Its the right diameter for our pipes, just gotta get a c-clamp. Hope this helps and its too late to find a pic.

How does it differ from stock? Is there a big difference with the sound? Thanks...

has recordings of most of the common modifications. I think the only ones that are missing are people who have done the Diamond Jim one which is basically a straight pipe with a baffle inserted.

For the best power out, a Supertrapp is the answer, tuneable, but spendy. A better looking, good sounding, some power increase option, is the Dyna muffler. Dont get one with a crossover connection..

Because there will be an inlet from the header & an exhaust opening, where the nice sounding ROAR comes out & then there will be this lone collar poking out to the side, thats a X-over connection,,you dont want one with that..
