ya'll are TOO FUNNY!  Grin

Actually, whenever I go into various places around here I get one of two reactions:

1. hey lady, this is how your bike is blah blah and they know less than I do about how to fix it.

2. hey lady, it will cost $$$$$ for us to LOOK at it, and we dont do Suzuki bikes anyway.

The last thing you need to to is take that carb a part,Put some SeaFoam it will clear it up,I've had a motorcycle for over 20 years never had to take it a part,Maybe you need to run it a little harder once in a while.Yours is a newer bike anyway.

What are the odds she could walk into a shop & just tell a mechanic she wants someone to school her on going thru a carb & find some kind hearted fellow who would be willing to do it?

Lots of luck. I went into the local Suzuki shop last year to see about getting some work done but I wanted to talk to the mechanic first to see if he knew anything about the Savage. I was told - NO. Customers aren't allowed to talk to the mechanics (all one of them). End of story.

What about just draining the fuel bowl, see if there's any trash there.(at least you'd know if its clean or somewhat trashy)

Put seafoam in ,ride awhile, see how it does.

Keep it simple....to begin with...then go from there,if needed Smiley

The seafoam may be all it needs!

BTW-I've always gotten better help while stranded on the side of the road than going to a garage Cheesy

No way would I go to a name brand bike shop. Independent person, only.
No Auto dealer, no Honda, Suzuki, etc, just regular folks. Either an old guy or a young guy, thats who Id look at first. The 30Y/o type is usually busy with keepijng beans on the table for the family. Old guys have generally got their costs under control, young enough guys havent yet taken on the whole Family/House/car/boat,etc..Just gotta look around if you really need some help. I got here thru the charity( willingness to teach/help) of many. I share with those who want to know.
Doesnt have to be a bike shop.

Yes I got a recommendation for exactly that yesterday when a moto-cop told me about an retired guy in a nearby town who does MC work in his garage.  May swing by and see if that is worthwhile.

Ride safe this weekend guys!  Cool

I do that in charlotte NC, and yes I will split a carb in front of you and tell you what is wrong, or not with it.

Not retired, I am a software engineer.
Ergo, I believe information should be free.

I sell jet packs for GS500's but I insist on telling them where they can buy it first, their dealer, and what to ask for - the part numbers for it from any of 2-3 catalogs.
Usually they order from me anyway after talking to their local clowns. Not only is it the correct part, it also is cheaper even after mailing costs.
Yea take that you local dealer.

Cool.

...well not exactly the throttle I dont think?  I did not know where to start looking for the issue yesterday and was going to write in about it today, but it seems to be solved (for now).

Yesterday the throttle was turned and held as usual, but there was no corresponding increase in power, not like usual anyway.  I had no pick-up; not the usual leap forward.

Situation was first gear, throttling up for 2nd, but had very sluggish reponse. Same thing in second, very slow and never quite up to speed.  I rarely go to third on my way to work. This happened all day yesterday during several rides.

It did not matter if I had the choke in or not - same response.

Today it started to do the same thing. Then, as I was holding the throttle at one postion, first gear, the bike lurched forward and gained speed.  All torq back, now speeding up in normal quick response.  The lurch was enough to snap my head back a little.

so...did i have something stuck in the fuel line? Or a bad tank of gas?  Huh  Is this going to happen again?

I am going to go against the grain of advice here.
But I suspect a clogged air filter, or a clogged gas tank vent (usually only with long fast rides it crops up, but depends on how bad a clog though) or a clogged carb float bowl vent.
It fixed itself. Makes it moe likely as the air filters cant do that. Its a gas tank or carb float bowl vent. Try pulling the hoses from the carbs that sorta point back toward your butt on the upper 1/2 of the carb. Brass colored tubes, possibly have a rubber hose on em. That is the atmospheric equaliser for the carbs. Easy to check, and if its clogged, easy to clean.

If you split your carb and got into trouble fitting it back together, send it to me, in bits and pieces too, and I'll send it back perfectly fitted back and running like a swiss watch if it is a carb issue of course.

Cool.

Its free for me to talk to my eye doctor - I am working on his Vulcan carb at the moment. My doctor could soon be free (if he ever buys that z400) he's dreaming of, and I would be able to talk to a lawyer free (tax lawyer though, so not really a lawyer, so more like an accountant but with much larger numbers) if I ever clean up my garage and make it safe for his harley ... yea good luck I told him, but of course his friend crashed his HD and the bike promptly showed up @ my door ... so you never know.
Cool.

I added seafoam yesterday - today was sooooo flawless for riding that I went out to James City across the bridge and back at lunchtime = 30 miles at 65+mph.  Awesome!

Thanks srinath - if it comes back, i'll let you know!

Through bill being so adamant about seafoam,I have been reading all  the posts scattered about in the forum on seafoam for awhile now,and online elsewhere....and read good reviews from a Motorcycle Magazine.....

Though a little skeptic at first, before any knowledge of the product, I am convinced now it does alot of good....and at least, harmless. Cool

Hope your bike continues to run great skatnbnc Smiley
