.... Where to find brass nut from battery terminal
07/05/09 at 16:23:36
During my struggle with my drained battery (a few weeks back), I lost the "square brass thingy" from my battery terminal (negative side). Sometimes, I need to push down on the screw when the contact is lost to be able to start the bike. Sometimes, weird things happen, like the bike starting during the ride (dying and then self-starting)... where do you find that part.... HELPPPPPP

Don't think those are brass, just plain steel.
Hardware store should have them.

I'd rather have one
big one than four
small ones.

You don't need to replace it with brass, a stainless steel nut will do. Just don't go using mild steel, it will corrode very quickly and be a pain to service.

Went to a Suzuki dealership... he just gave me a pair of nut and bolt without charging me anything
(he also gave me a big smile)... I put them on and took it for a ride... no problem so far... we test tomorrow...

The best of them are made of copper not brass. Conducts better and less likely to corrode.

Whenever I get a new battery, I glue the terminal nuts in place.
End of problem.

When I get a new battery it usually comes with another plastic vent line. It also usually comes with new battery cable bolts and nuts. Cut off two pieces of that vent line about 1/2 inch long - or maybe a bit less. Mash the pieces of tube flat and squeeze them into place between the nuts and the battery body. That will hold the nuts in place. Works fine on the negative post, but will interfere with the red plastic terminal cover on the positive cable. Cut a notch in the red plastic cover to clear the other tube, and you are good to go.

Just tighten them up with a wrench works pretty good.
