Savage too small for me?
07/01/09 at 14:47:58

I'm 6'2 215lbs and I'm wondering if a savage would be too small for me.  I was thinking of buying a used one and turning it into a bobber.  Also can you run 70mph on these things without it vibrating like crazy or screaming at high rpms?

There's a lot of guys here your size,... but it cruises better at 60mph...

And there's a lot of guys here who will say it's great at 70 too....

The real question is,... do you really want to cruise at 70 on a bobber?... It'll do it all day, but I wouldn't want too.

6' 240# myself
You'll need to make the seat and the handlebars fit you, just about everyone does and forward footpegs sometimes.

I like the stock footpeg, HD seat with a set of low rise handlebars on high risers best.

If you want to stay with the stock seat, then forward footpegs will be nice.

I do a 1/2 hour daily commute and I'm over 70 most of the time.

6' and 250+ myself and have no problems, but then I made some homemade forward controls. And yes, it will do 70+ rather well.

Raising the front of the seat by a good inch is the best bang for the buck for comfort. I changed out the buckhorns on my '02 and put on a clubman, sportster type, didn't like the hand posistion of the stock bars. A carb rejet and a different muffler will get the bike running over 70 mph with ease. A savage is a light bike but can cruise on the superslab all day if needed. Luck with the bob

6' 235...........Forward controls via Ed_L, convert to a chain drive(pick and choose your ratio), white spacer mod, dump the 50lb stock muffler and rejet. Oh yes, fix the seat.
I did the above. Can cruise 70-75 all day. I did more than all that but the rest was cosmetic. You know, dumping the sidecovers, repaint, clubman bars, etc.
Have fun!

You'll hate the seat and the shocks. Forward controls are very nice but not entirely necessary. I found on my bike that between 60-65 the vibration was rather bad but past that it seemed to smooth out. It will do 70 all day but you wont unless you mod or change out the seat.

6'5" and 210-220lb. Fits me a little small but I like being able to manhandle it. I could use larger pegs since I have large feet/shoes and it'd be nice to have a seat adjustment but otherwise I couldn't ask for a better small cruiser.

Hopefully I won't look like a monkey *&#$ing a football riding itSmiley  Here's some photo's of my last project.  I chaned the apes out for 4" risers and drag bars.  I just finished it and some guy screwed up on Methadone ran me off the road and totalled it.  Luckily I was ok.  The bike is a 650 Vstar, did everything myself, didn't have the springs under the seat on this picture and finished up a few other things after the pics were taken.  Looks like I have some reading to do around here so I know what all mods I'll need to do!
