Road Trip....
06/25/09 at 14:19:49

GrinI am riding from Farmington New Mexico to Whidbey Island WA. It is about a 1300 mile trip!  I am really looking forward to it!  I just wanted to see if anybody else has gone on a long distance trip on a 650 Savage, just to see how it went! Thanks! Mine is a 2003!

My In-laws live in that same town. I also lived there for a year or so about 3 years ago. That does sound like a nice ride!!

My old man's uncle lives there, so we are going to go visit him. I have only really been riding about a month, and I am hoping that my bike will do good on the trip. I love the bike, but have not taken it on a long trip yet.   Huh

Sounds like a great trip. Fresh oil, and good tires are the first thing that comes to mind. Oh yeah, enjoy the ride. Grin

Several have made long distance rides on the Savage. Jack_650, Paladin, and sockmonkeygirl come to mind. I'm sure there have been others.
My only experience is two 700 mile round trips I've made on the Savage. Mines stock, save for the brass plug, and a couple of comfort mods. The bike did great on the trips. My particular sweetspot is at 65mph. More than that and I start using more fuel than my cost to benefit ratio will allow. Mine is so comfortable now that I wish I had a bigger tank, but every 100 miles isn't so bad.
One tip, if I may offer one, is to have a duplicate set of keys in your pocket. You want these with you in case your keys/luggage are lost or stolen.  Ride safe and have fun!
Oh, and ride report with pics please!!!

One thing, when you break to get gas and such. Really take a break!!
Walk around, stretch, water! Don't just hop back on the bike or it will be like you never got off. It will wear you out quick.

Zip ties and bungees. Mind the sun.

See my blog.

Good luck! Keep us posted!

Thanks to all of you!  I was a little nervous, because I am still pretty new at this. I am really looking forward to it, and we are leaving as soon as the sun is up tomorrow! I can't wait, and there will be tons of pictures, that I guarantee you! I love pictures! Thanks for all the advice, and well wishes!  Grin

we are going up through colorado, then utah, idaho, oregon, and then into washington. And then from Seattle we go out to Whidbey Island. I know the route you are talking about to Grand Junction, it takes a little longer, but it is way more enjoyable!  Smiley
