For those of you who say there is no proof that loud pipes save lives, why not be safe than sorry?
I have an aftermarket HD pipe (don't know what kind, got it at a swap meet) and it is basically a straight through with a little hump in it for a baffle. My friends have a Yamaha V-star and Raider with Hard Chrome exhausts and they say mine is louder than theirs. I love the louder pipe because it makes the bike sound great and, from my experience, is much safer.
On the highway, when I get stuck in someone's blindspot, they ALWAYS notice - I see them checking the mirrors to see whats makeing that noise. Some cars even move out of the way when I come up behind them. In slower traffic, I have blipped the throttle to let drivers know that I'm still here. Some guy tried to merge across my lane into the next the other week. I revved it up to let him know how I felt about that
I find it work better than a horn or middle finger and makes drivers more concious of me when they are about to pull out or merge.
But thats just, like, my opinion, man.
