i was wondering because mine is scratched and could use a little flat black. i was also thinking of doing the shocks but don't want to remove them.
and i'm contemplating removing my sissy bar but don't would like to keep it for my girl.
couldn't find the main ingredient for the theme bike i was going for, and after all the bikes i've seen and looked @ i don't want a different bike.
i'm going to look @ the "how to paint chrome" forum and see what can be done.
but def the belt guard because it doesn't look good @ all, i see alot of them removed, what are the pros to taking it off? it's gotta be there for a reason right? probably wrong lol

It's there to be shiny....
Ditch it...
PS,.. big secret,... the rear bolt hole is not a hole, it's a slot. You don't have to take that bolt all the way out,... just loosen it...
Shhh!,... don't tell anybody else...

Thank goodness for that. It looked like the thing was going to require pulling the bolt all the way out, which would require removing the rear pulley, loosening the belt tension, readjusting it..
and the knee-bone is connected to the leg-bone
...etc. But no, the guard just lifts right off.

The rear bolt of the belt guard is also a washer for that shock, you may want to add an actual washer after removing the guard.

dude if you are gonna get rid of it just cut that thing into pieces, sounds like a good chance at revenge since it sounds like it is giving you some trouble, and definitly add a washer the same size as the other side, and the belt gaurd is there just for added safety in case something happens to get caught up in it.

No bolts are removed from the rear of the belt guard. If you mean the rear tab of the guard serves as a spacer.. crap, I didn't think of that. If only there was an easy to install piece that would fill the bill..

i'm gonna give it a shot, i don't have any washers though, i'll pick some up. anyone have a pic of removed belt guard with a washer, so i can 110% positive i'm not breaking it
and don't tempt me to cut it, my friend invited me over to help demolish a wall, i won't up using a sledge hammer, axe and my kenpo skills lol i wasn't invited to put it back up though ahhaaa

Hey Rocco, please let us know what all is involved in getting the bolt out. I may zing off the slotted end of the tab, then round it off to look good, then secure it with a zip-tie or safety wire. But if the bolt isn't too hard to remove I may do it right and install a washer (or two, that tab's pretty thick).

I don't have washers on either shock, the mount has a pretty wide surface to it. Been riding like that for 2 1/2 years....

I never put a washer back in and it has been fine. I also didn't know it was a slot when I took it out. You can get the bolt out just line up the bolt with one of the openings in the drive rotor.

Right, and there shouldn't be a problem with that as long as everything lines up. In stock condition there's no washer between the right shock and swingarm. I thought about shortening the left bolt so the left shock would be against the swingarm too, but then it would be slightly cocked sideways.

I had one of those DUH! moments and found out that the difference is the position of the belt adjusters. Loosen the axle and adjusters, scoot the tire forward, and the bolt will come right out.
For the spacer, a 1/2" SAE flat washer is the perfect outer diameter, but the inside takes a little dremeling to slip onto the shock bolt. Buy a little bag of cheap chinese washers, and they vary so much in thickness one will be the perfect spacer.
