You can drain the tank bu taking the carb hose and letting it run into a can, set the petcock to PRI.

Take the seat off, two bolts underneath on either side, take the bolts out at the back of the tank and slide it forward, up and wiggle it all at the same time.  If you have the stock petcock I think that makes a little difference in how you wiggle it.

I sent you a pm.

Using an approved container (yeah right)
remove the gas hose from the carb
insert into app. cont.
turn petcock to prime
don't move...  Grin
until empty.

Hmmm... never drained my tank before removing.  Just catch the 1/2 ounce of fuel in the gas line using a cup, disconnect everything else and remove.

Some folks can get theirs off w/ gas in it, others must be drained. Mine comes off, but just barely. I have to drag it back & up & then slap the tank to the left to get the petcock to pass the frame, but it scrapes it. I dont care. Beats having to drain & remove the petcock.

I was able to take my tank off the first time without draining/removing the petcock.  This last time, I struggled for 20 minutes and decided to drain.  A Raptor petcock is sounding better every day...
