How do you mount your bags?
06/13/09 at 16:43:16
Good Day!
I am looking at mounting some saddlebags on my wifes 2008 S40. For the life of me I cannot get them mounted. For any of you that have them permanently mounted, how the heck did you do it? The bags are rigid and have a hard backing but I have no idea where I would bolt them onto.
Thanks for the help! Hope to get them bolted for a trip next weekend!

You said hard and rigid. Are they leather or hard plastic/fiberglass? If they are hardbags, there are no OEM hardbags for the S40. So you'll have to adapt them. Maybe Easy Brackets-

Could you post a pic of the mounting side of the bags? That would help a lot.

Look here:

These soft bags go first under the seat and
then hang on the sides and have a simple
guard on each side of the wheel, that's it.
W/hard bags it's quite different.

Anybody ever notice that the OEM bags look like no other style bags out there? Seems like they wouldn't be good for carrying some stuff yet they would be better with other stuff, like books for instance.

I've got em and yeah, they're great for books and paperwork. Bulky stuff isn't quite as good, but they've got enough give you can cram coat liners and stuff in there. The top flap is designed a little awkward, but it does a great job of keeping the rain out.
Oh, and the straps on mine started cracking after a couple months, had to patch em up:
