Ed L's Forward controls (i know, another one)
06/10/09 at 10:33:24

Just finishing up installation of Ed L's forward controls and i hit a road
block.

Whenever i go to use the rear brake, the linkage gets stuck on the old brake cable mount. Am i supposed to grind that down a little, or am i supoosed to bend the linkage to ensure it misses the bracket??

Any of you guys dealt with this and what would you suggest?

I just installed mine on my 08 and had to cut the old mount off to make it work. I used a cut off wheel.

Hmmm... I don't recall having to mod anything on the bike to install mine.  Just had to refine the edges of the plates for a crisper look.

Yup, I had to cut the old brake cable mount as well.  Mine would catch against it and hold the brake pedal in the depressed position.

Think I ran them over the mount.  Can't remember but I'll look next time I go outside.

I ran them over the motor mount bolt. But I was not able to reinstall the bolt that mounts the brake cable to the frame; not sure if it needs to be readjusted.

All of the work is worth it; it feels like a totally different bike to me. I am 6'1" and it made a huge difference. I am going to post some pics when I get a chance.

Mine fit no problemo...on an 08.

Can't remember how exactly how it went, but if you 'dry fit' it and have a good look at how it all works it becomes pretty obvious how cables want to lead thru mouting bolts and brackets.

I did not bolt plate that holds light switch cable and brake cable in parallel (it is down by the muffler) back in place as it appeared to be happier if it was able to find own position and sort of be able to 'float around' a bit.

It took a few tries and a lot of fiddling about to get the angle-iron bracket that bolts on the eback of the right side forward-control-plate aligned just right to provide a good lead to the pedal linkage without it wanting to kink the cables.

have put a couple thousand kilometers on the bike since with no drama.
