Dumb Question
06/07/09 at 13:20:31
Where in the heck is the oil drain plug? I've got a 2001 Savage and I cannot figure out from the picture where it is, it's driving me crazy. I found a 17mm plug on the right hand front of the engine and opened that up but only got a little oil out, what am I doing wrong?

The plug is underneath, close to the kickstand.

The plug goes in horizontally, left-side under frame. Either a 14mm or 17mm depending on year...

The first time I had a hard time finding it. It is a lot longer then you think it is. Remember here there is no dumb questions, might get some dumb replys.

Unscrew the fill plug and flip the bike over.

That is really messy! Just split the engine cases and let it out.

While on the right side of the bike, reach under the engine just shy of the kickstand. Go up a bit. You will feel a bolt that is pointing horizontal away from you. Thats the one. I had to hunt for it too.

Wrench toward front tire. Smack down on wrench. Unscrew plug for about 1/2 hour. Its a long winded thing.
I dont know what happens if you get scared twice, but I know what happens when a guy comes home from work, too tired to eat & Too hungry to sleep.
He lays there & starves to death with his eyes open.

Where's the drain oil plug?
Follow these simple steps:
Step 1- park your bike in the grass.
Step 2- use needlenose pliers to remove the clip holding the throttle cable on the carb. Just as the clip releases from the cable, drop it as usual.
Step 3- get on your knees, bend down (eyeballs very low to the ground) and search real close through the blades of grass for the clip.
Step 4- when you spot the clip, pause and simply look upward under the bike and you'll see the oil drain plug.
Step 5- retrieve clip and reinstall

Here a view looking under the bike from behind the front wheel. You can see the bike frame tube to the right, The oil drain plug is the shiny one in the center of the picture.
