125.00 for a rear tire?
05/27/09 at 12:53:03

Am I getting stiffed? Or is that about right?

I have 15,000 on the one I have, and I am seeing cords.

Thanks in advance.

depends on the skin, and if that price is installed...sounds about right for a decent tire installed, or a good one cash and carry.... but excessive if it's a "joes of cleveland tire company" retread....

15K I'm getting close to 8K on mine and was thinking the back tire looked like it could be replaced. What is a "normal" distance on a bike tire. I asume mine are still the stock ones since my bike only has 8K on it.

what's the "normal" distance a human can throw a rock? it all depends on conditions... road surface, temperatures of air and road, and how you ride make tons of difference... they dont last near as long as a car tire, though... 8k sounds about right... soft compound gives good road bite, but short life....

Paid $39.99 for my rear KENDA Challenger and I LOVE IT
rolled over 3,000mi and still looks like new (corners great too!)

...installed it myself with a bit of patience, a door frame, a car jack
and soap.  Don't forget to replace your inner tube!!

Got some brand new cheng shin tires about 2k mi ago. They were cheapies and all reviews pinned their useful life at around 5k mi but at 2k i see very little wear front or rear. $35-50 per...or something very near that neighborhood. Im satisfied.

I'd rather have one

I live in MA and paid $206.00 total for front and back Dunlop 404. That included mounting both tires too. Remember, don't go cheap on your tires, they are what connect you to the road, which I kinda think is important.

Really now, ya really gotta love a $34.99 rear tire that lasts between 15 and 20 thousand miles.

There are some like that out there on the list you know -- more than 5 or 6 at this point in time.

But then again, when you generally get five + years of use out of a tire some of us actually think you can afford to get a $79 "improved" sports version.

Here is the low down;

Dunlop K555

$125.00

I tried to make it to the dealer but the tire popped. Had a friend haul it to the dealer.

89.00 Labor/and  inner tube !!!

I will never go there again!

Total (bent over with no vasoline)  215.00 for a fu&%*ing tire replacement.  :'(

Oh that cheng shin will outlast most anything else ...
On my virago 1100 the same rear size as the savage, I managed 10K miles on the current cheng shin and it may have another 2500 I can squeeze out ...
On a savage, 15K easy, 20 K probable, 25K possible.

I have some small rules when buying cheng shin ...
Cheng shin rear tires almost all of them get their grip from tread pattern, not tire warming up and sticking. So I try to run the tire that has the most aggressive tread on the sides. Marquis was the model that fits that perfectly.
The front I really really avoid marquis - its hard as a rock and its easy to lock up. I run a hi-max front. That is the metzeler copy. Hi max is OK for the rear, but front, never run marquis. My maxim X is now on dunlop front, hi max rear.

Kenda and some others I could try in the future, but for a cruiser, nothing like a chengshin marquis rear and i-max front.
Cool.
Srinath.
