New Rear Tire

I'm fixin' to go on a road trip this weekend, approx 400 miles there and back. My rear tire has a manufacture date of the 33rd week of 2000 plus there are some signs of dry-rot, so I'm going to replace it. I was quoted $140 for a K555 including install, $130 for a D404, or $135 for an IRC RS310. Any suggestions? Also, any problems going with a 140/90 instead of the 140/80? Thanks

i've been using D404's since I got the bike, no issues and it makes the speedo dead on.

With any tire change you need to be concerned with tire clearance. A slight misalignment and the bolts on the inside of the fender will reprofile your tire. If you're going with a larger tire, replace the bolts with carriage or truss head bolts.

On my '96, the spacing on the tire is pretty good, but on the '8802 the tire is biased towards the belt side. IDK if it's the fender or spacers.

Search around in here for more info. As far as which brand to get.. how about asking something a bit less controversial.. like.. which oil to use? LOL!!

I put 490 miles this weekend and had no problems. This tire really held the road and there was not any problems.

depends if your speedo is accurate now.... your speed will have a minor increase compared to what it was for any speedo reading.. something along the lines of 5% or so... in real world terms, if an indicated 15 didnt get you a speedy in the school zone, then with the other tire, an indicated 14 shouldnt get you one either....65 and 62 respectively for the highway....

Yup, my speedometer always read low with the stock IRC tires. Having the wife's cage follow and speed, the D404's I put on are about 1mph high, instead of about 5mph low.

I was VERY surprised at the 6mph difference on my 01. But it reads closer now Cheesy
