Nice job! I wish mine was that clean when i started modding...lol

I have a straight through fishtail and a cone filter, so went with #55 Slow jet, a #155 main jet, 2  needle spacers.

Search forum, there is always some debate as to where to start with this stuff, IMHO Mine runs great with these jets though.

Your results may vary, this opinion void in some states.

I'm not quite sure where to begin with the re-jetting process. The bike has been backfiring a ton and it bogs and sputters in first pretty badly. What would you suggest?

Here is a good start. May take some reading to fully figure out.

Can't remember where the other posts are....hmmm

For now, may want to check out the mixture screw on the right side of card and temporarily turn counter-clockwise a quarter to a half turn...should get rid of some of it for now,

I am definitely not a pro at bike mods, so i'll put my 2 cents and let the other guys educate us both...lol
Since you have an open exhaust and stock air filter, it's gonna e guesswork ....
55 pilot
152.5 main
not sure on spacer (1 or 2 washers)
start at 1 1/2 turns out on mixture screw

anyone else?  (can't remember what type of washer to get, i bought the kit..lol)

Wrapped it today no pics since I left my camera in my friends car.

Thanks Kenshi for the advice, I'll be looking into it. Where could I pick up jets locally? And if I adjust the idle mixture screw temporarily until I rejet and downsides to this? Any long term effects of it running so rich? I'm shooting flames at every backfire although its badass I'm sure something is going to go wrong.

My girlfriends bike was shooting flames and backfiring, though hers is basically stock.
I put in a new air filter, cleaned the carb, and started adjusting the mixture screw an 1/8 turn at a time until it i could take it around the block without sputters and pops.
If nobody has touched the screw, the bike is running lean from the factory. (EPA reasons...lol)
The straight through exhaust is gonna cause issues til you get it rejetted, but i would make sure you dont have a leak at the exhaust gasket and adjust the screw for now. (It can shoot flames even if its not running rich).
Best places are usually online for jet kits. The guys around here probably have more expierience with them than i do.
Looks like there are 3 Suzuki dealers in your area...i love google.

She leaks where the header meets the exhaust right now. I'll be picking up some jets and I'll go from there.

You get the flames because your exhaust is waaaay open. You need to rejet. For sure go up a couple of sizes. I bet you dont have a baffle in your exhaust. You are far too lean and your bike is going to run far to hot. Not good for your engine. Your shut down should be a mild poof. In terms of your needle position, maybe get some washers and set it in the middle so its a little higher up and more fuel goes into the carb.
Goodluck. I am still tuning my carb as I have little time.

I was thinking of going with this for now:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/SUZUKI-SAVAGE-LS650-S40-CARB-JET-KIT-STAGE-III...

then mess with the idle mixture screw.

DO NOT BUY FROM FLIGHTSIMSHOP!! He is a thingy breath. There is a post dedicated to that seller. Whoever that person is is rude, unprofessional and unreliable. Buy from Lancer. He is your man if you cannot get anything locally. He will set you up with the right jet kit and then you can go from there based on what your bike likes.

Also, I used a stage one jet kit when I put my free flowing exhaust in. I am not a pros, but I would not rejett until having a baffle placed in your muffler. Make sure your muffler is mounted well. I made the mistake of not mouting my muffler with the bracket and it kept coming loose. It might be kinda hard to seal your muff with wrap where it connects to the header lol. I love the wrap. Here is what mine looked like after I painted, and removed the paint from the muffler. It looks cleaner now then there.

Good thing you warned me, I was just about to place an order. How would I get into contact with Lancer? Just shoot him a PM?

Would a 55 pilot jet with ventilation holes and a 155 main jet be a good starting point? I don't think I'm going to baffle it unless I need to.

Is your header wrapped? Looks like it! I like the look of your exhaust. Are those Z bars too?

yeah its the black wrap from the harley shop around the block. Its more of a charcoal grey. Hence the flat black cylinder heads and heat shields. My bars are called h-bars or window bars. I forget. they were about 70$ canadian. I think they came out of the roadchrome catalogue from a custom shop I go to. They are not as heavy as the buckhorns and man do my hands vibrate now lol. Look around for custom shops near you place. I swear by my guy. He has been building bikes for 35 years. I cant help you with the pilot as i no longer use the stock carb. I used to have the stage and I used one main higher than stock and it was good for my bike. I think I used a 50# pilot jet 9slowjet). PM Lancer or check out the savage store for the jet kit.
