It let the engine drop down a little further in the frame. Then I was able to remove the head. Or... Are you trying to remove the engine from the frame to work on it?

engine removal technique
once all the bolts and wiring are removed, roll the bike out to the lawn, lay down a couple of blankets, lay the bike down engine on blankets.
Wiggle the engine free, tilt up, and lift out. It's heavy, but once it's out of the frame, this old man can pick it up and put it on a bench. And I didn't strain anything doing it.

No. If removing all the bolts that attach frame to engine didn't get you enough clearance then you will need to remove the engine from the frame. See verslagen1's reply. I will have to try his technique next time I remove mine.

What ever works. But if you've dropped the engine down, another 1/2 hour max and it's on the bench.
