You'll get a lot more with a carb, a cam and an exhaust with a lot less effort.

Wiseco pistons make three sizes larger than stock.

Stock s-40 uses a 94mm piston. Wiseco makes 95mm, 96mm, and a 97mm piston.

96mm piston with stock 94 mm stroke gives 680cc.
The piston with shipping costs about 230dollars. The price of cylinder boring is just over a hundred dollars at a dependable shop.
Then there is the cost of gaskets and labor unless you do your own.

Google Wiseco pistons for details

Better check that again, or better yet call/e-mail them as I did. Thats a No Go on any piston for the LS650 street bike.

It's especially not a good sign when they do list the LS650 as a dirt bike.

Factory OS kits

There use to be two
0.5 mm   for a 660 cc  and a 1.0 mm for 670 cc

BUT..... I looked at the online microfische and only saw the 0.5 mm

Well they list it under the dirtbikes, and the person who e-mailed me back said no they dont carry that.
May be wrong but I sure cant find it. Got any pics ?
I'd like to get my hands on a Forged piston with a slightly raised top and valve cutouts....

We can get some custom pistons if we can get 4 or more people wanting them from ROSS Pistons, they only make custom slugs in 4's...

Get them in the same dia as that of Chevy 305 V8's and we can use the Gapless Ring sets !!!

Yep, Wiseco does have them but as stated you do have to look them up under the '90-'95 DR650; and the sizes are 95, 96 and 97mm.
Someone on ebay also has a few of them in assorted sizes.

When you look under dirt bikes in the Wisco site,  You find the pistons fo the 96 and earlier DR 650s. Then if you look closely, you will see that they are also for the LS 650.
I called on the phone and it was verified. I also asked about how thin the cylinder liner could be bored. They said even down in  the skirt area,(the part that extends down in to the block), do not have less than .080" thickness.
My skirt area measured 101mm on the outside. If I bored for a 96mm piston that would leave 5mm difference. Divide that by two and get 2and 1/2 mm thickness. That is as thin as I wanted to go so I bought the 96mm piston and merely wished for the 97.
Be advised. the piston and wrist pin together in the stock engine weighs 33 grams more than the Wisco piston and wrist pin.
You can either put up with a slight imbalance and the vibration it induces, or add weight to the wrist pin to match the original weight.
I did the latter.

BTW the Wisco piston has a raised crown that in  addityion will give an increase in compression. Use the better grade of gas with this piston.

Okay I found the box it came in.

Wiseco piston 4597M09600
Suzuki DR/SP/LS600-650

Mine has been hopping up and down inside my engine for more than 700 miles now so if they don't make one, I have a problem.

Base stayed the same as did the exhaust. Still stock pipe.
It is noticeably quicker through the gears from a stop.
Don't know if it added any horses or the ones it got grew a bit bigger.
Soon I will try it on a known uphill grade to evaluate.

I've got a couple of spare cylinders sitting on the shelf waiting for something to do .................................................hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
It would help if I had a lot more spare money though....
wouldn't it be fun to have a kit with a 97mm piston, bored cyl with silicone carbide treatment, and perf. cam/carb combo    Cheesy
