HD muffler installation?
05/09/09 at 18:24:30

Yes, I did a search, couldn't find my exact answer. What does it take to install the HD Dyna muffler? I tried to install mine last week, quite a bit of play between the muffler and stock pipe. Stock muffler clamp will not come close to clamping down tight enough. Can a stock muffler gasket be modified to fit and find a correct clamp? How have you done the HD muffler install?

Thanks. Smiley

Edit: Found a few posts.... Some say they slip right on, others need a spacer?

some people get a heavy-duty clamp and crush the pipe down... some use slices of tin can to make a spacer... I cut slots in the muffler pipe, about a dozen... and some have an adapter fabbed at a muffler shop...

I had mine put on by a bike mechanic, straight and simple slip on and single bolt through original bracket. Then I went to a muffler shop for an extension to get past the brake lever, discovered the SE II slipped right off too! Header bolts were even loose. Guy set me up pretty good, made a custom clamp and sealed her up tight.
That's what I would recommend. My 2 cents.
