I use SAE 10w40 since it gets pretty hot up here in ottawa in the summer.  Also, when I do wash my bike I spray water with a spray bottle and wipe down with rags. When mud and dirt is off I use meguires car polish on tank and fenders. I use blue job to polish my header and exhaust. Blue job helps to polish and rid of blueing and orange coloration on header.

My oil preference is a synthetic 5W-40 diesel/gasoline rated engine oil.  Mobil Delvac 1 is my favorite.

If you're in a very hot climate, use a 20W-50, 15W-50, 10W-50 or 5W-50.

odvelasc where do you get your Blue Job? haven't come across it yet.

Fresh 20w50 went in mine today.

I wash mine with a pressure washer and a rag dipped in soapy water.  Blast the oil and crap off instead of trying to finesse it off.  Works like a charm.  Alternately, I sometimes just let the dirt build up until it is heavy enough to fall off on its own.  The bike doesn't care one way or the other.
