How fast were you going when you shifted up to fifth? If going too slow engine speed wise it could bog down enough to kill the engine.

Ratio on 4 speed (4th gear) .875
Ratio on 5 speed (5th gear) .884

I am not sure that would make that much difference in torque. But maybe it does...

Knowing that you adjusted the mixture screw and knowing your experience level makes me wonder if the idle rpm is set too low.

Does this repeat?

Could it be electrical?

it's happened once before like a month or two, i'm wondering if it's electrical as well.and i'm pretty sure the rpm is at about 1100 maybe 1200.i could be wrong, could it be the coil??

4 speeds are fine, They can run 90 clicks all day long.
The 1100/1200 rpm is rather low to get it loaded in 5th gear ... unless somehting you're saying is going over my head.
You rev and speed up in 4th before shifting to 5th. You prolly have to hit 4500 or so before you clutch in for 5th ... 4500-5K. I'd not even think of dropping into 5th till you have 40 mph minimum on the tach. I think You may be load-stalling it. Too high gear at too low speed.
Cool.

i think 50 mph is 4000 rpm, also i don't know if my weight is an issue i'm at 165lbs fully geared up, but i've heard of people weighing 130 and riding so it probally doesn't make a big difference.what do you think??
