i want to buy handlebar grips like these http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Handlebar-Hand-Grips-Rail-w-signal-for-Chopper... what do i need to know before buying grips? do they just have to fit 1" bars or are there other things involved?

unless you got aftermarket bars, there's a weight in there you ain't getting out.  So no internal wiring.

Ok, 1st hurdle cleanly leaped.
Next, take off the throttle grip, and compare with the picture.
2 screws on the control and split it.  You don't have to take it completely apart, but spread it enough to take a look at how the cable attaches.  You'll see that one side of where the cable attaches is longer.  That's a stop.  These don't have that.

Those grips are probably "universal fit", which means you have to remove the OEM rubber and glue them onto the throttle sleeve.

It is also possible that these are meant to fit newer Harleys, which are electronic throttle-by-wire.
