brat style
04/16/09 at 19:36:51

I was just wondering if anyone had done a brat style bike with their savage.  I am now at a point where I can seriously start looking at bikes and I always end up going back to the savage.  It looks like it would be an easy bike to modify.

Still,

I know that you and everyone under 30 knows what a brat bike is.

However, for us old sausages (and, there are a few of us here), please tell us what a "brat bike" is?

TIA!

So I'm confused, went to the linked site and saw a bobber not very different than sluggo's.

So sluggo's a brat bike?
Or does it also have to be ridden by a brat?
In that case, wouldn't it be a rodent hanger?

seems to me like brat style is a company. one whos name is used in a general sense. sorta like how people call all hot tubs "Jacuzzi" when in reality its just a company that makes  hot tubs.

I'm almost 50 and I know what Bratstyle is! Cool ... it's actually a Japanese company that does Bobbers and Bobber/Tracker hybrids that are largely their own unique "Japanese spin" on the Bobber craze ... which has become known as "Bratstyle" ... Bikes modded to imitate their look (Bobbers with bench seats instead of a solo is one of their signatures ... so are black cast wheels intead of traditional spokes) are considered Bratstyle or Brat Bikes ...
Here's a W650 that has been "Bratted";

And another Brat Bobber ... not sure of the make ...

Here's a Bratstyle Sportster;

Brats are VERY cool! Cool

Or how all adjustable wrenches are called "Crescent Wrenches" or all locking pliers are called "Vise Grips" or how all adjustable pliers are called "Channel Locks" or how...ok, I'll stop there... Grin

So a Brat bike is essentialy a bobber with the difference being that Brat bikes more consistently have low rise handlebars and exaggerated mufflers and Bobbers often have higher ride handlebars and more regular exhausts. Is this correct?  Or are Bobbers and Brats essentially the same thing?

I think Brats are essentially the Japanese take-off on the classic American Bobber ... some are closer to the American style bobber while others have elements of Street Tracker thrown in ...

Correction: The Bratted Harley shown above isn't a Sportster, but more likely one of the Big Twins like a Dyna ...

I've sorta' noticed the opposite.... brats are bobbers w/pullback bars instead of drag bars,.... and often black painted wheels...
Who knows?...maybe just a boober with a bit more "look at me" added... Huh

That's normal, all boobers have a 'look at me' attitude.   Shocked

Brats and bobbers are pretty much the same thing.  I just see more brats with some sort of suspension than bobbers, and a lot of brats have  smaller engines, 400cc to 650cc.  I love the look of a hardtail bobber, but I think I might be to much of a sissy to ride one.  Everyone says it hurts your back.
