Problem with turn signal staying on
04/15/09 at 09:23:39

The past few times I've ridden the left turn signal (front, rear and speedo indicator) has turned itself on and remained so no matter what position the switch is in.  It does not flash on and off...just a constant burn.  The right signals work normally.  My guess would be a problem in the switch itself, but has anyone else run in to this problem?
Regards,
Sam

Blown bulb? Running LED lights at all by chance?

No LED lights...just standard.  I don't think it could be a blown bulb since the lights are burning brightly and constantly.  Also, the problem only appears after I've been riding for a couple of miles.  Before that everything functions normally.

Hmmm... Possibly a bare wire somewhere? That's my only thought.

Had the same issue. Turned out to be the relay itself. i went and got a new one from Advanced Auto for $3. Check all your wires and connections first but if thats all good replacing the relay is easy.

Thanks for the advice.  Is the relay inside the thumb switch itself?  I'll check my Clymer's manual, too.

Pretty sure that the turn signal (flasher) relay sits under the tank. Right hand side if you're sitting on the bike, right up front. It's black and round.

I agree with tough guy. Possibly a bare wire. Also try the trouble shooting chapter in the clymer manual. I put on new turn signals  and the wire got pressed between the fender and the screw on the new rear signal. The wire became exposed caused my brake light and both turn signals to flash because the the wire was wrapped around the screw where the ground was touching. Goodluck.
