Who would remove chrome?
04/09/09 at 06:54:59
I was thinking about taking the chrome valve covers on my '05. Is this a simple unbolting or is the more to it? The right side seems like it will come right off but the other side seems to have more attached...

It's easier if you remove the tank. 2 bolts on each.

2 fasteners each,
right slips over a hose.
left side front has a bolt captured in the head cover.
slip a hose over it and put the nut back on.

I took mine off because when I put the bigger tank on there wasn't room for the chrome tops. I kinda like the look better without them anyway. Uglier, manlier, retro-ish, easier spark plug access . . . Did I mention more manly?

I took mine off and had them sand blasted and powder coated flat black, looks great!

I used an orbital sander to sand off enough chrome to get good adhesion. Got to plastic on the batt box and had brass showing on the head covers.

I took mine off, when I had my S40. Then buffed the paint off the 2 valve covers. Here's a pic;

I remember a bronze/copper colored spring on the left front part of the head. I just painted it black. I liked the look. Easy to get the spark plug too.

But now it looks like this;
I REALLY need to take my camera out there and take some photos. Cell phone photos just make everything look bad.

No, they are some type of metal. Otherwise they wouldn't be able to powder coat them for me.

Amusement, it looks good! I think I'll keep the head covers off but I really like blackout on the sidecases...how'd you pull that off? By the way here's where I'm at right now, too much homemad wine so I'm calling a night...
