However, 98% of the smart mechanics here have learned by making mistakes. The point is never to make the same mistake twice! Good luck!

Thanks for the kind words. I'm am not discouraged. I learned my lesson. Just glad it wasn't too costly a mistake. My new cover should be in Friday. I'll let you guys know if she's purring like a kitten. And thanks to everyone who kicked in already. I also did several minor mods to the bike while it was apart (thanks to the people on these boards).
