Could it be something else? Battery?
04/07/09 at 06:58:49
Hey guys,
Suzi stalled and and would not restart on my way into work this morning. Its about 45 degrees, gas in the tank, ran about 4 miles, then stalled on the highway. Tried to restart, battery was weak and unable to start the engine.
I rolled it to the nearest gas station, checked everything (no loose or missing pieces). Sounded like the battery is really weak (no surprise, new BigCrank on order).
But, is there something I could be missing; is it something other than the battery?
Today I am going to probably have it towed home, await new battery and go from there.
BTW - not ONE PERSON stopped to ask if I needed help; all cages whizzing by.

Sounds like you're looking at either battery failure or the bike's failure to recharge the battery.

If the bike isnt recharging the battery, what do i do to fix that?

I'd charge it overnite 1st.
You need a volt meter.
attach the leads to the battery and rev it up a little.
the voltage should come up to 14 to 15 volts.
also you should notice the headlight getting brighter.

Ummmm...I thought I ordered the battery, but it was just my oil filter and air filter.
Anyone got the lowdown on the best place to order a Big Crank?
And does it fit into the Savage without modification?

I ordered mine from
http://www.batterymart.com
Good shipping price, fast delivery too. They shipped from Winchester, VA. Probably 2 day to you in NC, though possibly 1 day. Size-wise no modifications are necessary. You do have to bend the tables on the battery cables to make them fit on the terminal but that's easy.

Sweet - thanks much!
And I did end up having to get her towed back to my house for $50 which I think was a rip off. (about 6 miles from where I stopped)

Dude, I even had my long red hair hanging down, and my helmet off. And if you mistake my hips for a man, then you got some issues and I ain't goin there!
All I was whining about is that no one seems to care anymore; too busy texting as the whiz past. And I did see that more than once this morning.

Been there done that! Broke down coming out the main gate of a huge USMC Instillation and over 100 cars passed with no stopping... these are all coming off base mind you! Finally a taxi driver stopped and gave me a free ride! People are too busy for common curtesy these days!

I am soooo glad you mentioned where they are located. As it happens I am passing thru Winchester on Friday, so I called and they have a store front business and I can just pick up the battery!
