I need help with idle speed (Read 162 times)

loraslb50 YaBB Newbies Offline SuzukiSavage.com Rocks! Posts: 6	I need help with idle speed 04/06/09 at 15:40:38 My bike will not stay idle. I have cleaned the carb 3 times now. I dont understand what i am missing to make this thing not run right. I took it for a spin today and driving was great had great power and speed but it still would not idle right. Is it the pilot jet or the need jet.

Did anyone ever try JB Welding a piece of something to that plug and then pulling it out? We discussed it once, but I don't know if anyone gave it a shot. It would prevent drill damage to the screw behind the plug, if it worked. I'm all out of new Savages to try it on, although Feisty Limited's husband is talking about tuning his up soon. Maybe we'll give it a shot on his bike.

Plus 1 on that! Wrap a bunch of electrical tape around the bit, past the desired depth. It can get away from you real quick. (Don't ask me how I know this. )

I took a grinder bit and widened out the hole to within a hairs breath of the carb hole. Then stuck a flat bottomed end mill, one that's made for plunge boring into a drill. One touch was all it took to spin the plug loose.

Here is the documentation of how to do the idle "mix" brass screw plug removal if the simple idle speed screw adjustment does not help:
