stripped bolt

Ok... I stripped this bolt somehow... I actually took the head off and it threaded in, but almost a 1/2 inch is stripped... it is bolt 20-27 on the diagram... DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW I CAN FIX IT?

One isn't critical but you might lose another when you torque it down.

Helicoil.  Sizes have been stated before.

in the ssm that bolt(L130*) shows having a gasket
the piston must be on tdc comp stroke when tighting..
diagonally snug them first then if all is ok torque to spec..6-8.5 lb-ft
replace the bolt can use an epoky steel for the fm threads if necessary
but have to re tap..

My bike had that very same bolt stripped when I got it. I ignored it for a long time.  Embarrassed It would occasionally leak around that area. I finally got around to fixing that one and a couple others that were close to being gone. I used Helicoils (Size = M6), bought a set that had everything you need and a handful of the coils off of Amazon for about $24. It was easy to do too. Came with instructions. You will need a 1/4" drill bit too, kit doesn't come with that.

It currently lists for $25.31

I hate helicoil... pain in the ass and expensive, but I think it will be worth it if other go that route! I think maybe me and the previous owner over torqued the bolts on it...

The Helicoils were worth every penny to me. Sure helped to get everything fixed right this last winter. Now I don't have even one oil leak anywhere.

Why you hate helicoil's.
I install them in gs500 cam caps for people, used up a good 5-6 that way ... I used the first 2 in mine.
Cool.

ok... so I found another bolt I had from another bike... drilled the hole out and retapped it... put the bolt in... Now what I figure the bolt is bigger, but not to big to stop the flow of oil threw the hole there... AM I RETARDED in that assessment, or am I right?

its bolt 20-27 per the diagram... I checked it and there is still plenty of clearance for oil to pass through!
