I left it on Prime
03/22/09 at 18:39:26

Yowser I left it on prime since thursday. I get home from work tonight and there is a thin puddle of gas around the bike in the garage. How do I clean the gas, and is my engine flooded? The gas leaked from the float bowl drain on my vm carb. P.S I should have my new raptor petcock next week to avoid this bozo-ness.

The raptor petcock is a manual petcock which means you will have to remember to shut off the fuel everytime you shut off the bike or you will repeat what you did with the prime.

Gas evaporates pretty quickly.

You may have flooded the bike.

yikes, i hate when that happens. throw some kitty litter on the puddle, sweep it up and wah-la!
i thought about running a additional on-off valve in-line to prevent a oops.
pull the dip stick and take a wiff! also stand the bike upright and see if its overfilled. then i might suspect a flooded motor situation.

You might want to check the carburetor, too. If its float valve is working properly, it should not have flooded whether you shut off the fuel or not.

As stated above I sure wouldn't try to start it without checking the oil - might just drain it any way and fill it with fresh oil just in case - sure doesn't take much raw gas in the oil to create a solvent out of a lube - which of course will burn up the cam "bearings" and likely the cylinder walls

Absolutely change the oil. Itr might be fine, but if not, the cost of repairs will far outweigh the cost of an oilchange. If you dont start it, then you can keep the filter in.
