I need new tires
03/19/09 at 13:05:49
I know there used to be some tire recommendations, but they must be beyond my search reach or gone from the archives.
Got a 2006 that is 90% city driving under 50 mph daily. Road trips under 200 miles couple times a year.
Looking for tires to replace stock - recommendations?

I just put a new set on my bike. I went with duros. Seem ok so far, cheap too. $60 front $85 rear. I was lazy though and paid the $160 to let them put it on

I went with dunlop D404's. About 20 bucks more per tire than the Duro's. They have real good grip and the rear tire now has about 3k miles and still looks pretty new. I just replaced the front last week. I got 14,000 miles out of the stock front tire. It was pretty smooth when i took it off. Much better now.

I run Cheng shin hi max fronts and marquis rear tires on all cruisers.
I managed to get 15K out of the rear and probably 20K from the front on my virago 1100.
Its a hard as a rock set of tires that get their grip based on tread pattern and not temperature.
They are excellent in rain and really very consistent as they wear. Remember very early on you'd know their limits and they never waver from that. I doubt they're any worse than the IRC's, kenda's or any other hi mile tires. I just think they last longer and are cheaper than any of em.
They are fine with tube tires.
Cool.
Srinath.

Continental Conti-Blitz on front and rear.

They came with the the bike when I bought it last march. 5000 miles and outside of a bit of wear on the sides from my knee dragging tendencies, tread is still like new.
So many tires, so little time.

D404. went with 140/90/15. Like the fatter look. Tire works great even at 60mph pegscraping turns. Cause you never do that, do you?LOL

Anybody here ever have the Route 66 and Metzeler ME880's?
I have Metzeler now, but considering going a bit cheaper with the Route 66 if it is about just as good.

Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut between the seat and the handlebars. Make sure yours isn't too tight or too loose.

Lot's of good tires out there, I'm sure that you will choose well.
Your question still beats someone asking "What type of oil should I use?"

For what it's worth, I just ordered a Kenda Challenger to replace my worn out Kenda Challenger. They're inexpensive compared to most others, but the last one went 5000 miles after I got it used.

and bump.
Still looking to see if anybody has run both kinds in the the past and what they thought of them.
Rumor research says the Metzeler will last longer ( I have about 16k on mine now and can go a bit longer), but the Pirelli have a better (more even) wear pattern.

Pretty much anything is better than stock. I can't wait to get rid of the factory ones. They feel horrid to me, and it makes me not trust them to be there when I go into corners.
