My Bobber/Chopper (now w/pics)
03/19/09 at 04:42:58

Bobber  Undecided Chopper.... what shall it be!

For now... being my 3rd post and first bike in awhile...  and the engine just knocking along... bummer.  I haven't rebuilt an engine since Middle School, and that being a KD90  lol!  It became a KD100 plus...

here goes:

1999 LS 650 (Stock)
appx 16000 miles... too tired to go out an look, but about right,
NEW tires...  they be cheap and wobble and drift   hehe
Seat -  a replacement needed or a recover... *my ass is still sore from a recent 6 hr round trip to Orlando... not even 30 minutes into the trip mind y'all !

Project Upgrades:
- Raask 60mm (on the way)
- Alliance membership
- SEAT (Solo - 1 piece 2 up or 2 piece 2 up)
*** here the bobber vrs chopper...  or cheap route (thus sore ass)     a new/custom/homemade cover.
- Carb package from Lancer
- cone filter from this site
-  is the performance cam still available?

oh!  Shall I get new tires and a paint job when done to boot...

I planned for the upgrades when I purchased this bike, wasn't sure I be doing pistons, honing, bearings, lifters and chains... etc if needed.
I changed the oil... 10-40W but have read here that I should probably use 20-50W (live in Florida).  Going to change again to clean the insides and tighten the muffler collar (?).  Hopefully this cures my ails, before the price and labor go up.... hehe

Throw in the cats and dogs too!

I purchased and MC lift and orderes the Clymers 86-04 edition.
(getting an impact wrench too)

ok... I am ready.... I read (or plan to finish reading all posts here shortly)  Huh

Anything else I need

                    .... like a labotomy

wuf  (soon to be Wolf) - when the Savage runs ... again, hopefully soon.

pic(s) forthcoming

The seat is the modified/reskinned effort (since remodified to the rear to eliminate the staple from protruding thru the vinyl cover).

Wolf

Short story.  I purchased a HD Fat Boy thru the military... Got a call from HD that it arrived... was handed  Lips Sealed papers... needless to say, I passed and someone else is riding the Fatboy lol!

So...  this has been planned for 10 years! Wasn't sure it be the Savage, but HAPPY with the purchase after riding it - however brief it has been to date

Thanks Chopped!

I am still reading the vast bank of data available... nice that the bike has essentially not changed much since it's inception... hopefully many more.

I made the forward controls myself with a slight mod to keep the kickstand in stock position. Ed L's controls moves the stand forward as well.

Wobble? Sounds like wheel bearings. I replaced my wheel bearings when I replaced my tires at 9000 miles. Huge difference. Tightened it right up.

So when it comes to seats.... aftermarket seems the basic route.... now are there certain seats NOT to get?

I prefer a solo (gel?), but a one piece gel is also an option... it just means which way i'll swing with the bike

I am handy with tools, can do limited fabrication... enough to handle what I have seen here...  Looking for comfort, but then we get to the suspension... lol

The pinging has subsided somewhat, just sounds 'sloppy" when accelerating.  Still there thou, the sound comes from the top end..... maybe its me.  I'll still open her up just to make sure.

The Raask 60mm ...  shipped ! Smiley

Don't know if i want to upgrade/rebuild the existing carb or just simplify and go after the Carb setup here.  $$$ (while not foolish) is not an issue when it comes to the engine.  I'll probably be getting the cam too, thus might as well rebuild the engine and recondition or upgrade where needed.

I really like the clean look of the Savage when you remove the airbox and battery.   Now where does the battery go???  I haven't gotten there yet...

Basically, this bike might be getting a recondition down to the frame.  Might need to buy another so I can ride. Roll Eyes

Wolf

Thanks Yonuh Adisi and Rouge_Cheddar for the info!

Latest update:

I have ordered the verslavy from verslagen1 and I have ordered the performance cam, cam chain and jetset kit from Lancer.  I'll also  have an spare engine soon ('96).

I guess a basic tool kit is next, mine is SO SHOT!  Missing this, missing those, all over the house, so a new dedicated one is needed...

Ok... I am outta here (for now)... off to ride the sunset in Florida!

Be careful after you install that performance cam from Lancer. It has been known to lift the front of the bike when you throttle hard with it. (I know it does it to mine) You may end up with permanent grin syndrome  Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

That is beautiful Demin!

The Raask 60mm dragpipe arrived yesterday!  Need to thank Sivert Raask!

The CD and Clymers arrived earlier this week also.

Awaiting the other upgrades to arrive

So, instead of this  Huh  ...  I'll be smiling when I can twist that throttle, lift a wee wheelie and be like Yonuh!
