Tire Question
03/10/09 at 16:19:47

Was looking at my rear tire today and noticed that metal threads were starting to show through. I have about 6,000 miles on my bike-is this normal wear or are IRC tires garbage? Any suggestions for repl tire?

That's definitely getting your money's worth..... 6k on the IRC's is excellent...  Dunlop 404's will last longer...

I would say that might be riding the "highway to the danger zone."

I'm not even close to metal showing yet and I have 6800 on stockers. I put pretty much every bit of that 6800 on myself. Wonder why the difference.

I was looking at locations and mattmwagar is in Tuscon (typically warmer asphault in days) and serowbot in Nebraska (cooler typical dyas). If not riding style, average road surface, it may be road temp.

On those 404's, will the 140/90/15 fit alright?  That's the size of the Kenda I have on, but I wouldn't want it a zillimeter bigger.  Is it safe to assume that any tire that size will fit?

True that about the road temp. Plus most of my miles were put on in big chunks, not just little short trips here and there. Usually 80-200 at a time.

When did Serowbot move to Nebraska?  The rat never mentioned it when we were riding.

Most manufacturers have a listing of the actual size of their tires as mounted on a specific width rim (and I assume properly inflated.)

Our rims are 19x2.15 front and 15x2.75 rear.  That rear is a skinny rear for the size tires we use.

I've got over 8,000 on the stock tires. Still some life left. Might last me through the summer. Depends on whether or not I take any long trips; and in this economy, I seriously doubt that.
