Jetting on a stock 1988 Mikuni carb
03/10/09 at 08:54:14

It's been a while since I posted here. The bike's been sitting in the garage for the winter and we've been keeping way too busy with other stuff (our first baby arriving this spring!). Now that the weather should be starting to agree a little more, I am getting my '88 back in riding condition.

I am going to be putting a Dyna takeoff muffler on and I'm wondering about my jetting. According to what I read in the tech section, I've already got a #155 main and a #47.5 pilot. I had ordered Lancer's jet set last year but didn't do anything with it. It seems that most folks, when rejetting, go for a #150 main and #50 pilot. Would it make sense for me to go to a #50 pilot and leave the #155 main? I was getting some nasty backfire on shutdown so my mix screw is already about 3.5 turns out. Any other tweaks I should consider?

I'm running the #155/#50 setup on my 1987.  Around three thousand feet altitude and a fairly wide open Jardine slip-on.  Purrs like a chicken.

See that's the thing. I'm at about 160 ft above sea level. That means I'd be running lean anyway. I'll try swapping to the #50 pilot and maybe I can turn my idle mix back in a little. Thanks.
