Anyone buy the Performance Carburetor Kit ?
03/03/09 at 18:19:15

Just wondering if anyone has purchased the Performance Carburetor Kit  I found on the main page under products?  What exactly do you get in the way of performance?  I am considering buying one to skip rebuilding mine and get more "performance".

If your looking for more performance your gonna love the round slide carb. Lancer sets em up with a UFO from thunder products which adds about 6-7 more horses. I even put their dial a jet on mine for a tad more. It is a different bike now.
You'll not be dissapointed.

Nice!  6 - 7 more HP is a big bonus.  The bike has a harley muffler on it now which I want to keep but the exhaust pipe is beat so I need to replace that too, not bad only $150 from Suzuki.

Hey Morton.

You can buy a vm mikuni roundslide carb super cheap from ebay. I bought mine for 35$ american and it came with a throttle cable. I bought the 38mm. You can buy the UFO and Dial-a-Jet directly from thunder products. Lon and his lady are super helpful. They will sell you the 17.5 Pilot Jet for 5$ bucks I believe. The papers claim a 1-2 horsepower/100cc increase. I am gonna install my products in about 2 weeks when the garage warms up. Sevier says its an awesome mod. I cant wait. I paid about 150 with delivery from thunder products. You will need the custom throttle cable that Lancer sells.

You gotta bare in mind that us Canuks have to pay 25% more for US dollar items plus shipping that can be as much as the product. Usually the shipping charge just gouges us for extra dough and some places won't even ship outside the US. We gotta pretty much make do with what we can get a hold of at a reasonable price. If I ever win the lottery I'm going to open up a home based mail order business for Canadians that stocks all the items we can't get and sell them wholesale. Wouldn't make any money but it would be fun.

You could have your original cam reground. Should be a bit cheaper. Relative in Norway had a DRZ400 inlet cam reground and nitrided. It cost about 60 €.

Be careful when you get the cam, especially since you like twisting the throttle. I put Lancer's cam in the FireLizard and even with my heavy a$$ girder front end I can lift the front wheel about an inch rolling in second gear just my twisting the throttle hard. (It was fun too, but scared me a little when I went a bit squirrely.)

I have no clue how much 60 € is but it sounds like a bargain.  Cheesy

I think I will hold off on the cam for now.  This is the first bike I have ever brought home in road ready condition and I am already fighting the urge to strip it down and do all kinds of stuff to it.  I want to make sure I am going to be happy with it before I go pumping all kinds of time and money into it.  I also don't want to put to much cash in so that when it goes I dont take a bath on my investment.

Let me start off by saying I'm not super smart when it comes to carbs but I am mechanical inclined.

I've been searching the forms after buying the Performance Carburetor Kit and I can't find a clear answer to my question. I have a 2005 s40 with the stock petcock (works off a vacuum). Will this continue to work with this kit or do I need to do a swap to the raptor petcock (manual on/off/reserve)?

I'm a newbie so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
