Thanks.  Wow.  I've got a metal frame behind mine.  But I'll keep an eye on it.

I got my frame from the Local "CycleGear" store.  I think is was around 4 or 5 dollars.

I'll have to keep my eyes open, I noticed the plastic frame the dealer put on was already cracked by the first 600 miles.

Those "Cycle Gear" stores are great, the local one here has almost bankrupted me! (not that that's all that hard to do) Sad

Mine split too, upper left hand side near the corner at 2500 km.  At first I thought it was because the Ontario plate had the reinforced stamping omitted around the outer periphery or it had inadvertantly been bumped but now after reading this thread I am beginning to wonder.  I reinfoced the crack with duct tape and installed a licence plate cover that fit perfect.  Seems ok now.

About a 1/16 inch thick aluminum backingplate centermounted on the bike's licenseplate bracket.

Some of you mentioned the plate splitting and/or cracking.  Do you mean the metal license plate itself actually split into two pieces?

yes, the actual plate is the issue.  I ended up putting Gorilla glue all over the back of my plate to stiffen it. Seems to be working - it was the third MC plate I had to get because of the tearing/breaking issue.
