Passenger pegs as mid-controls?
02/23/09 at 17:44:29

I was thinking of trying to mount the passenger pegs as mid-control pegs, any feedback on this?  Has anyone seen this done?  Just would like a different position once in awhile on long trips.

Any info. is much appreicated!

My Suzy is currently in the workshop, engine off etc. so I took a good look at the frame and asked the mechanic "why don't we fit 'normal' foot controls and leave the forward pegs as highway pegs?"

It definitely would improve both ride quality and bike control in city driving (Europe-wise, at least).

He pointed out that unless there's a way to tap into existing bolts (such as, engine to frame) there's so much work to be done I might as well manufacture a new frame altogether...

(Now this is where BMW and Guzzi designers show their wisdom... the frame is made of a top half and bottom half bolted together by awesome mighty bolts; the top half is generally the same on all models, then cruiser, GT and sports bottom halves differ for footpeg and other fittings moving +/- front or rear)

Sooo... I'll look at the frame again next time I go, one thing is to manufacture a looong floorboard front to rear, another is to actually move the pivot points of brake and gear pedals.

Ive seen a pic of one with some heavy aluminum stood vertically on the right side & a peg nmounted. I didnt see the left side, but surel;y there was a peg there too.I can remember just where, front to rear, but it looked good, from a ride control perspective, & with the pegs still out front, good riding position for longer trips.

Thanks guys.  I am not thinking actually to change the brake and clutch to mid controls.  I just thought moving the passenger pegs by themselves, to the mid-control position and keep the stock controls where there at.  Just to switch it up riding position once in a while.  I was thinking of just bolting the passenger pegs there somehow.

they make footpegs that clamp to the frame rails, you might try those.

I already kinda use my passenger pegs for that when going down the freeway, and they're in the stock location.  When my legs start getting stiff, just hook the heel of my boots on the pegs to keep 'em from falling off.  Works good when fighting a strong headwind - (Columbia River Gorge - 'nuff said! Roll Eyes) you can comfortably pretty much lay down with your chin on the bars almost, and not catch quite as much wind.  Would really work good with a windshield, which I don't have. Grin
