I picked up the Savage last summer and aside from a small sissybar bag and a few spacers under the seat, it pretty much sat the way it was.

Last night I met up with SimonTuffGuy and picked up a set of saddlebags and new signal lenses (Thanks again!)

So this morning I started on the brackets.  I used the dimensions from another thread, got some 1/4 round stock and started bending.  I'd have to say I'm pretty pleased with the outcome, considering I haven't done anything close to metal work since HS shop class.  One bend is a little too rounded, but I'll have to take them off to paint once it gets a little warmer anyway, so I should be able to tighten it up then.

I'm sort of on the fence about the lenses though.  My bike being orange, the stockers don't look too bad.

My next step was gonna be the brass plug on the carb, but to my disappointment, it was already gone.

What's next?  I was thinking another muffler to louden 'er up a bit, which I know will also require some carb adjustment and a jet kit.  Are there any other tips/tricks on little projects I can do before spring that would be useful?

And I know that a new mod thread without pics is a no-no, but my camera must be packed away somewhere since the move

I agree with the above... Modding IS a slippery slope. Start with one small thing and you end up with a whole new project.

Good luck in whatever you decide. I'll let you know about that poker run when it comes around this year.

That picture had me rollin', mostly because I know the feeling...... my car started stock, then a little thing here, I'll change the lights, intake and exhaust, next thing you know I was doing a full engine swap.  She was my baby until an accident a few years ago.  At that point I figured I'd try my hand at body work, but the project got kinda depressing, and I still haven't had it repainted.

Mostly because the money that was supposed to be spent in the paint booth went to the Suzuki dealer.....

In terms of the direction I plan to travel, I have to rank:
1) functionality
2) performance
3) appearance

I want to be able to use it, and to the best of the abilities I can get out of the package.
I am probably one of the most anti-chrome guys out there.  I like quiet, non-flashy, low key.  But the flaming orange paint has grown on me.

I'm sure they'll be some style touches along the way, don't get me wrong, but I care more about being on the road than spending the afternoon washing and polishing.

Regardless of what happens, I definitely intend on it all happening by my hands (with a lot of questions and a little help along the way)

If I remember right that is about his only form of transportation so I'm sure the saddle bags are pretty functional.
