Peg Allen bolt snapped in half
02/15/09 at 14:09:53

Fully checked out the bike after the fall, and the problem I'm having right now is the allen screw that threads through the right rider peg is snapped in half. Half is in there, and the top part is loose enough to pull out. I have to get that bottom part of the screw out of there and replace it before I lose my peg on the road. It's a tight area to work in also, and the bottom part of the screw is rusted pretty bad. The peg is loose, and I tried to pull it out by hand, really just to see if it was loose enough to fall out. But I have to get that bottom part of that bolt/screw out of there. Also need a part number for a new bolt.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

that's a good one.... Huh

Can you get a hacksaw blade down between the footpeg and the mount?... might help if you pull the whole mount off the bike...
Then, if you can, cut the bolt and remove the peg.... the last nub of threaded bolt should be fairly easy to get out... either by tap and turning with a screwdriver, grabbing with visegrips, or drilling...

if you can't do that... you need to drill up from the bottom,..use a bit slightly smaller than the threads, center punch the bolt first... once you're in about 1/2" you should be able to tap it out, the remaining threads will collapse or break off,..then clean out the remnants with a fresh bolt...

Part no.   09106-06100   bolt      $2.91
http://www.ronayers.com/browseparts.cfm?SearchString=09106-06100&adv=5&kw=fic...

just remembered,... there's some kind of tin shim thing that goes between the footpeg and the mount... hacksaw may chinker that up...
here's the parts fiche..

part no.   43570-24B01   cushion  $4.54

had a similar problem, but the peg bolt sheared at the threads.
becareful or you'll really screw it up.
take it off the bike, squirt some break free in there
you should be able to use one of those thread extractors to get it out.

I'm trying to picture the peg setup in my mind but it just ain't working too good right now.  Any way you could use a dremel with a cutting wheel and put enough of a slot on the bolt to where you could use a flat blade screwdriver?

Yep, that's it #19 on the map:
Parts found with Part Number: 09106-06100.

This is one of those small jobs that if not done right, can become a real pita.
Thanks gents.

If the peg is still there how are you going to get to it?
BTW are we talking kickstand side or brake side?
anyway, take it off, douse it in break free. drill the broken side jam the remover in there and ease it out.  Peg or not, should come out.

No wonder I was puzzled.  I was thinking it was the rear peg. Why? I don't know.  I had a houseful of kids today so that's the reason I'm claiming for the mental hiccup!

Right side rider peg by the brake pedal. If it was the rear peg, I could care less  Wink

Yep I had issues with that one to, rusted solid couldn't break it loose, rounded out the allen socket.

That has a big nut attaching it to the plate and the peg mount will come off.  I think I still got one with a bent peg attached.   Grin
Try the break free first, and then set it up in a drill press will help, but at least a vise to hold it.

good luck.

I got the new bolt. Looks like pulling off the peg mount would be the safest way to get to it without messing anything else up. Snow just melted today, and I really need a ride. Want to get these few little things taken care of soon.
