New rear lights too bright
02/11/09 at 18:29:17
Hi everyone,
Im in the middle of customising my '91 savage, and ive installed a new twin cat-eye style rear light. The problem is that when i turn the lights 'off', the lights light up fine when i use the brakes, but when theyre 'on', they are too bright, like the brakes are permeantley on, so using the brakes makes no visible difference..
how i installed them is simply by soldering both cables together from each of the new rear lights, along with the old single wires so i could connect and disconnect them in one go from the existing set-up..
i soldered the two new blacks into the old black, the new reds into the old brown, and the new yellows into the old white.. does this sound correct? do i need dimmer bulbs or some sort of new electrical component to lower the current?
I appreciate this is a specific question but i thought id give it a pop.. i'll also upload some photos to show how i used the existing chrome brake light housing to house the new lights.. worth trying if youre doing the same thing but dont want to buy or make a new housing!
thanks, jack.

sounds like you wired the brake light to the tail light connector....

i'll upload some when ive managed to borrow a camera.. the bike is cosmetically finished so itd be good also to know what you guys think of my efforts with the finished article..
over the summer i took her round Europe, roughing it for 6 weeks or so, and i couldnt think of a better bike to do it on.. i found that theyre such quirky bikes, just give them some respect, and treat em well, and its amazing what you can do with them.. off roading, autobahns, overtaking high rev bikes going uphill out of endless switchbacks in the alp twisties, a 'real' motorcyle in my opinion!
