The fish weren't biting in the pond today so I figured I go ahead and do the engine mod I've been thinking about for a while.  Well, here it is:

Did you just sand the edges of all the bottom fins?

Pretty neat... Different from the normal take on the bottom half of the engine. Most people tend to black them out. I wonder what the Savage would look like with everything there blacked out?....

I started to sand them then I switched to a file.   The file worked much faster and gave the fins a nice flat edge.  It took maybe 15 minutes to do then another 5 to clean up.  I think it looks more uniform now.  I like it how the silver contrasts with the black.  It seems, in person, to make the engine look bigger.  I guess black is slimming after all!

Here's a comparison pic although the detail isn't that great.

Jim, I think it looks pretty slick. I just may have to go out to the garage and start filing myself!

In person it gives it a sort of old school (obvious fins) + new school (recesses and rest of the engine blacked out) look.  Somehow it just looks like a more quality, well made engine cause of the detailing.  It's tough to explain but I love it.

Now, just to follow up on the idea, you should pull the chrome faux valve cover off.  Take a look at Serowbot's bike.
