Need to machine a fitting for oil pressure gauge, and I know some of you have done it already. Help!

The test port plug thread is M14-1.25. Unless you have a machine shop, the EGuages M14-1.25 to 1/8" NPT adapter is the most cost effective and nicest you can get. You can see it behing the Ed L extensions <adapter picture > see below pict bigger at : < Big Picture >

My gauge came off of a relic Yugoslav Zastava truck

and it has a steel braided line that came with it with a large brass fitting with fine metric thread at the engine end. I am not sure what it is, but definitely larger than 3/8 inch. I have to find it and confirm, but I believe I already have a 14x1.25. In that case, I am good. Good old truck...

Now, Tmack, your gauge stops at 60psi, that's little over 4 bar. Does it go all the way up when the engine is cold? Is that why the glass is cracked

Mine is 10 bar max, I remember cold oil puts quite a pressure.

Yes ,smooths the needle vibration.

At 30 deg F / -1 deg C, with 20W-50 syn "Mobil 1" motorcyles oil, the pressure can be at 60 psig at start-up. At 50 deg F / 10 deg C, it's approx 50 psig cold. Once engine is warmed up in cold weather, it's 10 psig at idle.

In hot weather, 90 deg F/ 32 deg C, start-up is around 30 psig and hot engine at idle is approx 2 psig. (yes... two ).

In cold weather , you can NOTrev the engine until it warms up. The gauge will peg the needle Yes, I should have put 10W-40 in for the winter .........

i installed a oil TEMP guage on my 06,used the pressure port(hind sight I should of used the drain plug )for the sender unit ..had a local machine shop fab a brass adapter fitting ($80) long enuff so i could tap off for an oil cooler if needed...
at highway speeds in the summer the needle does tend to bounce a bit,
maybe 20C(german made temp gauge)variance but at city speeds steady readings..this is not an oil filled gauge..
imo
oil pressure gauge is a waste of money..by the time you see you have no pressure its too late..temp gauge will tell me both sooner... Wink

It might work for me. Maybe I could see a slight drop & know its time for some fresh oil. Or, maybe a guy could see a slow drop over a long period of time & realize its a problem that needs to be solved before its a fatality. I wouldnt say a pressure gauge is without value. Besides, theys dang cool looking if done right.

Since we have a simple oil pump, cold oil is higher pressure, hot oil lower pressure. On a hot hot hot day, I watch the pressure gauge more and tweak the idle just a little to make sure there's oil press when I'm at the stop light....

A little familiarity with it tho & the oil pressure gauge would let me know a bit more about it. Not as handy as a tach, but better thasn nothing.
