Oil Leak
01/05/09 at 12:35:23

I recently purchased a Savage and it seems to have an oil leak at the top of the cylinder where the ridges are (it seems to be coming from the exhaust port I think). It is my first bike so I am somewhat new to this. I have pictures but it wont let me upload them because the file is too big but even when I make it significantly smaller it still says it is too big. I know I am being vague with my problem but any help is appreciated.. particularly with cost of repair or if I could do it myself
Thanks

This is most likely your problem.

To post pictures, you first have to upload them to a site such as Bikepics or myspace, then copy and paste the location between these brackets [img]paste pic location here

This is a very common savage pet peev
hehe, welcome to the club  Roll Eyes

I've had this problem for over 3 years, no big deal,
just keep track of your oil level and keep the area
clean so the engine cools well, I personally use a
spray bottle with diesel fuel, a grill brush and a cottony
rag 2 times a month, problem solved.

I've been meaning to fix it for a while now, even bought
all the parts i'll need allready, but the thing is that you have to
tear apart 1/2 the engine to replace a stupid $3 rubber plug  Tongue

I appreciate your responses. So it doesn't seem to be a problem that has to be remedied as long as the area is clean and the oil is at the right level?

As long as you keep oil in it and you can stand the mess, it'll be ok.
