I think I adjusted the valves at tdc on exhaust stroke, Thanks VROOM1776 for the great info and pictures!

 Remove the spark plug put it in 5th gear turn the back tire in direction of travel and feel with your finger for the compresion strok. Use somthing like a plastic tie wrap to find out ware it tops out at.

Be even more thankful it has screw and locknut adjusters, so you don't have to remove the cam or cams and replace shims.

On the left (down)side of the engine they is round plate about the size of a half/dollar ,  put a large washer in the slot , a screw drive in the washer hole and unscrue it (right hand thread).

I think it's a 17mm socket turn it counter clockwise till the marks line up, while watching the INTAKE valves.  The first TDC after the intakes close is the one you want.

lossen all four lock nuts on valve adjustment.  THROW AWAY YOUR FEELER GUAGE,  

Now finger run the aduster down till it touches the valve.  Loosen up about a 1/8 to 1/4 turn  and  while holding the adjuster in place with a screw drive tighten the lock nut.

If you still have a LOT OF ENGINE NOISE !!!!

Your cam chain adjuster is about to fall out and couse SERIOUS damage.   Some where on this site is a picture of a modified adjuster plundger,  I did the same to mine and now have no noise valve or chain.   Also the SPRING that drives the plundger doesn need to be one/half that strong, (doint cut it) replace it with one about 1/2 the wire size. (Tractor Supply-any HardWare Store)

I'm not saying the Suzuki engineers are NIT WHITS but the're not that hard to out do.  I have over 30,000 miles on mine and would not trade it for any other modle curently being produced from anybody.

Ummmm, No..

First, before you loosen anything, check the clearances. If the feeler wont go in, make sure you really are on TDC compression. Then, using the feeler gauge, set the adjuster snug on the the smallest one called for. While its still in there, using a 90 degree flatblade to hold the adjuster while you snug up the jam nut, snug 'er up. Check the feeler now & see how hard it is to drag back & forth between the adjuster & valve tip.It should drag out & slide in w/o bending it, but if its a bit "stiff" to move, thats okay. Once you pull it out, see if itll go back in. If so, its good.

If you mess with the adjuster while the jam nut is loose, you'll see that the threads are kinda sloppy. Mine are anyway. when the jam nut is tightened, it will open the adjustment very slightly, as the jam Lifts the adjuster up into the threads.

I take the individual feeler out of the group, bend it 90* in 2 places, kinda a Z shape, break one end off & bend the rounded end like a ski tip. Basically, its my gauge, I have aplace I need for it go, so, I bend it & shorten it to fit the job.
