Air Filter Mod
01/01/09 at 12:52:30

Hey everyone & Happy New Year!

Things are finally getting back to normal so it's time for me to start working on my bike again. I was thinking of modifying my air filter/air box. I thought I had seen some threads on here before but I've searched and searched and can't seem to find them now.

I was thinking of removing the air box and adding a cone filter. I thought I had seen someones suggestions on the tube they used and possibly even the filter as well.

If anyone has done this or has any thoughts I would be very grateful for your help.

Best,
Ben

Thanks, I apparently forgot to change the drop down to "all posts" that helped. Wink

By all means if anyone has any suggestions or even pictures handy that they would like to contribute to my project I'd happily accept them. I'll post some pics myself once I get done.

Thanks,
Ben

Thank you very much! This is extremely helpful as I am also going to re-jet while I'm changing out the air filter.

Great pics also! Looks nice.

Thank you, this does help a lot. Does anyone think it is better as far as air flow, noise or anything else, to attach the cone directly to the carb or to use some hoses to get it to the empty space where the air box will no longer be.

Thanks to everyone for input.

I think it looks cleaner and meaner mounted directly on the carb. In theory it eases the air flow too. But you would have to move the battery back a little to where the airbox used to be. Takes custom brackets, though. Or go wild and bob the whole darn thing Smiley

Thanks everyone for the suggestions and input. All very helpful. I ended up moving the battery box back to where the air box was and now I'm just waiting for the cone filter that I ordered off of Amazon to get here tomorrow. I'll post some pics of the final project.

How did you move the battery box?

Well... I'm kind of a welding fiend so I welded it to the frame at an angle and I access the battery cables for removal from under the seat. Where it sits I should not have to remove the battery case until I'm ready to put some other type of case there.

I've been curious about something on this mod for a while now.  We get a stupid amount of rain around here most of the winter, how do those filters handle it?  Both going down the highway in the rain, and sitting out in the rain?  It would seem to me they'd be kinda exposed, but maybe I'm just imagining things. Undecided
