30 day makeover!
12/23/08 at 14:00:55

On November 23rd, I traveled 150 miles to purchase a used Savage. The tank was dented, turn signals and muffler scraped, seats rotted away, etc...... but it ran (runs) okay!

I rolled it outside today and took these pics right after I finished putting everthing back together

Stock taillight holes were welded and filled, tank dents were repaired, and new taillight, turn signal, and plate brackets were fabbed and installed after tank, fenders, and sidecovers were repainted in flat blue

I also fabbed a 2 inch slash-cut pipe for it to reduce the weight by 20 pounds and to let people know I'm comin'!

If anybody wants to see some of the project pics, I've got em!

Yup -- the perfect starting point for a Savage Owner Completion Kit!

Enjoy!  And be sure to use this board for information, questions, bragging and/or commiseration!   Wink

Very Nice - and now you have a new bike!!

If the pipe gets too loud, you can get baffles from J&P Cycles online.

I know, no such thing. Grin Grin Grin

I'm sporting the dreaded 4 holes right now as well. I need to get on it and get my other fender put on and order my new seat and such. Nice work on the bike!

Spray Cans!........ Rustoleum Painter's Touch Wildflower Blue Satin finish for a sorta blue primer look!
I just finished figuring my expenses on all this work, and I'm just under $400 total, including the new lighting, brackets, and upholstery!
I'm having a blast with this bike, even as my 1200 Sportster sits....
My son takes this one over as soon as he gets MSF credentials (a license) and proves to me that he can ride it. This thing should look right at home among a group of HD's and keep up just fine!

Nice job......  although you may want to get some kind of hardened clear coat on the tank.  Gas and Rustoleum don't agree with each other.

LS650 is a good little bike.  It usually surprises the "you-know-what" out of HD riders when they take off fast and it's right along side....    A tweaked LS650 approaches the proverbial 10 lbs per HP.  Not many HD's get close.   That 1200 of yours and the Dyna wide glides...

I just wish it had taller legs.....
